Veterinary Critical Care
If you need emergency vet care, call us on 1300 QLD VET (1300 753 838)
Your pet's health is our priority
Our Critical Care service runs out of the state-of-the-art Intensive Care Unit in our Stafford and Warana hospitals.
The Critical Care team comprises a highly experienced team of registered specialists and senior clinicians who are dedicated to providing exceptional, 24/7, lifesaving care for pets facing critical medical emergencies.
Our team of specially trained nurses support our ICU veterinarians to provide continuous gold-standard care to your pet. Similar to a human hospital, the intensive care unit is integral to the running of our medical centre, allowing for continuous provision of veterinary supervision and high-quality medicine to the patients who need it most.
As an inpatient service, our ICU veterinarians’ schedules focus on maximising contact time with our patients, rather than on consults or surgeries.
Patients treated by the Critical Care team are admitted to our pet ICU through our 24-hour Emergency Department, or if they are undergoing treatment with other specialty departments, and they may also be referred directly from your local general practice vet.
Advanced veterinary critical care
Our critical care service offers:
- Mechanical ventilation (life support)
- High flow nasal oxygen therapy
- Temperature and humidity-controlled oxygen cages
- Continuous multi-parameter monitoring (ECG, blood pressure, capnography, pulse oximetry)
- Blood transfusions
- Bedside ultrasonography
- Digital radiography
- Endoscopic foreign body retrieval
- Advanced diagnostic imaging techniques (CT and MRI)
- Fully equipped in-house laboratory including viscoelastic testing
- Enteral and parenteral nutritional support
Putting your pet's care first
Most of our emergency patients are treated by our skilled team of emergency vets without the need for the extra level of care from our critical care team. At Pet Emergency you have peace of mind that whatever care your pet needs they are in the best hands.
If following your emergency assessment, your pet requires specialist care, whether that is the round-the-clock care from our critical care team, or support from our team of experienced specialists, they will be able to access the care they need without needing to be moved to a different facility.
