— Lauren V. —
“We came to Pet Emergency as our Cavoodle was attacked by a larger dog. The team out the front and the team of emergency vets and specialists have all been incredible.
They called us hourly the first night he was in to update us and every few hours the second night and the specialist called every time after their rounds.
The third and fourth night he was there were over a weekend so it’s only the emergency team on. Despite this, they have provided updated information and have always found a time and a space for us to visit our dog.
They’ve made me feel so safe that Bailey is being cared for and loved during his time there.”
What happens when you arrive?
We know walking into an emergency hospital with a sick or injured pet can feel overwhelming. We’ll help you understand what’s happening and what comes next.
1. Your pet will be assessed
When you arrive, our dedicated emergency nurse will gather some initial information, assess your pet’s condition to ensure there are no immediate risks, and provide recommendations for the best next steps – this is at no cost to you.
Like a human emergency department, we work on a triage basis, which means the most critically unwell pets are treated first.
2. If you need to see an emergency veterinarian
One of our emergency veterinarians will examine your pet and discuss their condition with you.
Where further investigation or treatment is recommended, we’ll explain the options and next steps.
3. We’ll keep you informed
Emergency situations can involve difficult decisions. Our team will talk you through what we know, answer your questions and keep you updated while your pet is in our care.
Does my pet need an emergency vet?
Sometimes it’s obvious that your pet needs urgent help. Other times, it can be difficult to know whether something can wait until your regular vet opens.
You should seek urgent veterinary care if your pet is experiencing:
- Difficulty breathing
- A collapse, weakness or loss of consciousness
- Seizures
- A snake bite or suspected snake bite
- Being hit by a car or other significant trauma
- Serious wounds or uncontrolled bleeding
- Suspected poisoning or ingestion of something toxic
- Repeated vomiting or diarrhoea, particularly if your pet seems unwell
- A swollen or suddenly distended abdomen
- Difficulty urinating
- Severe pain or distress
- Complications during pregnancy or birth
- A sudden or significant change in behaviour or responsiveness
This isn’t a complete list — and you don’t need to diagnose the problem yourself.
If you’re concerned about your pet, call us on 07 3359 0777.
