What to expect on arrival
On arrival to our centre, you will be greeted by our client services and emergency nursing staff. Your pet’s condition will be assessed on presentation before receiving a consultation with one of our emergency veterinarians.
Just like in human emergency rooms, we operate a triage service, meaning patients are seen based on the urgency of their condition rather then in the order of arrival.
Due to the unpredictable nature of veterinary emergency care, there may be a wait to see our veterinarians at times. Your patience is appreciated whilst we attend to patients with immediate life threatening conditions.
Your pet's health and wellbeing is our priority
During the triage process, if your pet is stable on presentation, you will be asked to complete an admission form with your details before being taken to the waiting room or a consultation room to await the emergency veterinarian on duty.
If your pet is critically ill on presentation, we will immediately transfer them to our treatment area to commence emergency care and stabilisation of their condition. Your pet will receive immediate treatment and assessment by our emergency veterinarians.
If your pet requires admission for treatment at our hospital, you can be assured that all of our patients are under 24 hour observation and the care of our qualified emergency veterinarians and nursing staff.
Your Pet's Emergency Consultation
During your pet’s emergency consultation, one of our emergency vets will perform a thorough physical examination of your pet and will ask you questions about your pet’s medical history. As we do not have access to your primary care vet’s records, please try to provide as much relevant detail as possible to help our team assess your pet’s condition.
During this time, a decision will be made on the appropriate treatment for your pet’s condition. We will either recommend outpatient treatment, often involving medications and monitoring at home, or hospitalisation to enable diagnostic testing and appropriate treatment to be performed.
If outpatient treatment is appropriate, ongoing management of your pet’s condition with your primary care veterinarian may be recommended.
The emergency veterinarian will discuss every detail of your pet’s proposed treatment plan with you and explain any tests and costs involved. Please ask any questions about your pet’s condition and treatment as it is very important to us that you feel comfortable with the proposed treatment plan.
